2011 Row Crop Short Course

On behalf of the Mississippi State University Extension Service we would like to cordially invite you to attend the 2011 Row Crop Short Course to be held at the Bost Extension Center on the campus of Mississippi State University from December 5th – 7th, 2011.    

 Pre-registration is free of charge until November 25th, 2011.  Registration after November 25th, 2010, including at the door, will be $40.  We have a block of rooms reserved at the Hilton Garden Inn (662-615-9664) which are available for $99.00 per night.  Be sure to mention you are with the MSU Row Crop Short Course when making your reservation.

A roundtable discussion will be held in conjunction with the Mississippi Weed Science Society regarding the introduction on dicamba and 2,4-D tolerant crops on the morning on December 5th, 2011.  The Row Crop Short Course program will begin with lunch on December 5th, 2011 and will conclude after lunch on December 7th.  Topics covered at the 2011 Row Crop Course will include:  weed resistance, fertility issues in crop production, management of key insect pests in multiple cropping systems, and a discussion regarding the 2012 Farm Bill.  A preliminary program is included with this mailout.  Featured out-of-state speakers include Dr. Stanley Culpepper from the University of Georgia who will provide invaluable information regarding the occurrence, spread, and management of glyphosate-resistant Palmer amaranth.  In addition, Mr. Kip Cullers, world soybean yield record holder, will discuss some of his methods for attaining ultra-high yields in corn and soybean.  A total of 18 Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) continuing education units (CEU) will be available as well as pesticide applicator re-certification in categories 1A- Agricultural Pest Control – Plant and 10 – Research and Demonstration.  Credits toward renewal of the Mississippi Agricultural Consultants license will also be offered in weed science, plant pathology, and entomology.

Lunch will be provided free of charge each day of the Short Course.   Additionally, social mixer and hog roast will be held on the evening of December 5th at the Bull Barn near campus.  In addition, a social event and steak/shrimp dinner will be held at 6 p.m. at the Starkville Country Club on the evening of December 6th.  As with lunch, the hog roast on Monday evening and steak dinner on Tuesday evening are free of charge if you pre-register.
