Every year the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station conduct Corn for Grain Hybrid Trials.  These hybrid trials are grown in eight locations representing different growing regions, cropping systems and soil types in our state.  These trials may be grown on Experiment Stations or grower cooperator’s farms.  The Mississippi State University Variety Corn Hybrid Trials are an extremely valuable resource because they annually conduct open, science-based, third-party performance evaluations of 80 or more corn hybrids representing all companies in the marketplace who choose to participate.

This publication lists those corn hybrids which have demonstrated superior grain yield productivity in either irrigated or dryland culture in Mississippi.  These analyses are conducted using replicated research data generated from multiple locations and cropping seasons in order to better analyze hybrid genetics grown in diverse environments and improve predictability of future performance.   This provides a fine barometer for you to judge performance of the multitude of corn hybrids in today’s marketplace.  The best choices for your farm may also depend upon hybrid plant characteristics and growth responses.  The MSU Extension Service also conducts a Corn Demonstration program to thoroughly assess corn hybrid characteristics and enhance evaluation of elite hybrids in our diverse cropping systems.
