Pheromone Trap Counts, July 12, 2013

Bollworm trap counts continue at levels similar to or slightly higher than the past several weeks. However tobacco budworm counts are sharply higher during the last two weeks in certain traps. This would suggest that any worm populations found in soybeans or non-Bt cotton will likely be a mix of bollworms and budworms. I continue to monitor pyrethroid resistance to bollworms and budworms as I have for several years. Tobacco budworms are still much more resistant to pyrethroids than bollworms, so if you suspect you have a population that contains tobacco budworms, select a chemistry other than pyrethroids to get satisfactory control.
