Our pheromone traps were monitored for the first time this week. Bollworm catches were high for this time of year with an average of 46 moths/trap caught in Noxubee county, 40 moths/trap in Lowndes county and 13 moths/trap in Oktibbeha county. Given that Angus Catchot is already receiving calls about bollworms in corn, it looks like we may be off to the beginning of a high bollworm year. Tobacco budworm catches were not high, with an average of 3-5 moths per trap in all 3 counties. More traps are being put up and will be reported weekly as the counts are received.
