Soil Moisture Sensor Field Day Tomorrow!

Mississippi State University Extension has planned two soil moisture sensor field days for July and early August.  Attendees will view demonstrations and presentations of the agronomic advantages of utilizing soil moisture sensors to trigger row crop irrigation presented by Dr. Jason Krutz, MSU Irrigation Specialist.  Manufacture and distributor sales representatives will present short presentations concerning the types of sensors available here in Mississippi, advantages, and cost.  Each manufacture and distributor will have demonstrations tents set up for additional information.  The dates for the field days are July 16th at the Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville and August 6th at the Coahoma County Expo Center in Clarksdale.  Both events will begin at 1:30 in the afternoon.

Topics will include:

  • RISER results using moisture sensor based irrigation scheduling for corn and soybean.
  • Interpreting watermark and volumetric sensor data.
  • Sensor placement and volume needed for farm scale scheduling.
  • Current cost structure for sensor, data logging, telemetry packages, installation/service, and agronomic support.
