2018 Cotton Variety Trial Data
The final data for small plot official variety trials (OVT) as well as large plot, on-farm variety trials is now available. Official variety trials were conducted at a total of 10 locations in 2018 and of-farm trials were conducted on 18 locations. All OVT trials were seeded at 45,000 seeds/ac and were oversprayed three times for control of lepidopteran insects. Turnout was determined by ginning hand collected samples on a 10 saw Continental Eagle laboratory gin and fiber data were determined by the USDA Classing Office in Memphis, TN.
On-farm trials were planted using grower equipment and managed by the cooperating grower throughout the growing season. Each cooperating grower harvested each respective location and samples were weighed by Mississippi State University personnel. Seedcotton samples were ginned at the University of Tennessee using 20 saw Continental gin equipped with a stick machine and two incline cleaners and two lint cleaners. Fiber data were determined by the USDA Classing Office in Memphis, TN.
These data are intended to be used in conjunction with each other to assist in selecting the proper variety for a given environment.
