Bollworm pheromone trap catches were not extremely high this week, but June overall set a new high average trap catch and it the high catches were distributed among most monitored counties. To give some perspective, the highest previous years of trap catches during June since 2007 were 2010 and 2011, when the traps averaged 81 and 91 moths/trap/week, respectively. This year the average trap catch per week during June was 100 moths, so you need to be alert for large bollworm infestations in susceptible crops. Tobacco budworm trap catches were typical for this time of year and shouldn’t be a major concern in most locations.
