On February 6, 2024, U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona vacated the 2020 registrations of Xtendimax, Engenia, and Tavium herbicides (all products containing dicamba) for applications to Xtend and XtendFlex soybean and cotton varieties. This ruling applies to all uses of these herbicide products. On February 14, 2024, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released an existing stocks order which authorized distribution and use of stocks of Xtendimax, Engenia, and Tavium herbicides that were packaged, labeled, and released for shipment prior to the February 6 U.S. District Court ruling.


Consequently, it is unlikely an adequate volume of these herbicide products will be available to treat all cotton and soybean acres planted in Xtend and XtendFlex varieties in Mississippi in 2024. We compiled a list of herbicide suggestions for managing weeds in Mississippi cotton and soybean without the use of dicamba. It is critical that stakeholders are aware of this status change for three extremely popular herbicide products and that options are available to effectively manage weeds should they be unable to source an adequate volume of Xtendimax, Engenia, or Tavium.
